Ngāmotu Marae project continues to build momentum

Work continues to progress on the redevelopment of Ngāmotu Marae, with an important milestone approaching as Stage One nears completion.
Clelands Construction is close to completing the Stage One civil works and infrastructure, laying the foundations for the next phases of the project. The redevelopment is being delivered in stages, with Stage One focused on infrastructure and civil works, and Stage Two, being the vertical build, covering the wharekai, wharenui, ablutions and landscaping.
As the project moves from essential groundwork into the building stages, the transformation of the site will become increasingly visible. This will be an important moment for whānau, the wider community and people visiting the city, as the vision for Ngāmotu Marae begins to take shape above ground.
The Ngāmotu Marae team has also recently been working on the small house near the Bayly Road frontage, which will be developed into an office and information hub. In the coming months, people may see further activity around this space as it is prepared to welcome the public and share more about what is unfolding through the build and beyond.
Behind the scenes, the Ngāmotu Marae Reservation Trust and Ngāti Te Whiti Hapū Society Inc continue to share the project story and engage with groups and individuals across the community. This is about much more than constructing buildings. Building strong and lasting community support will be important through the remaining construction phases, into the official opening of the marae, and beyond as Ngāmotu Marae grows its operations, programmes and future potential.
The project has already received significant support from funders, partners, whānau, trusts, schools, community groups and individuals, alongside $8.6 million committed from the Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund.
