A new chapter begins
Monday 9th February, 2026
This morning Haydn Te Ruki led hapū members, trustees, and contractors in karakia to prepare the Ngāmotu Marae site for the mahi ahead. It was a quiet moment, grounding everyone in shared purpose and reminding us why this project matters for our people, our future, and our place.
Security fencing has now gone up around the Bayly Road site, signalling the official start of Clelands Construction’s phase one works. Over the coming months, crews will carry out essential civil and infrastructure works that will lay the foundations for the new marae buildings to follow.
For many in the city, seeing activity on site brings a sense of momentum and pride. The vision for Ngāmotu Marae has been carried by generations, and each milestone brings us closer to welcoming our people home to a place that reflects who we are.
As work begins, the hapū will continue to share updates and invite the wider community to follow the journey. This is a project grounded in whakapapa, supported by whānau and community, and built with aroha for Taranaki.
