Work starts
On Tuesday (24th February,2026), our hapū gathered with whānau, partners and supporters to mark a historic moment, the turning of the soil for the new Ngāmotu Marae.
The ceremony was led with tikanga, karakia, kōrero, and deep acknowledgement of those who have carried this kaupapa through decades of vision, planning, and perseverance.
The turning of the soil signifies more than the start of construction. It recognises the hopes of our tūpuna, the aspirations of our tamariki, and our commitment to creating a place for connection, learning, manaakitanga and cultural strength for generations to come.
We also acknowledge the many partners who have supported us to reach this point. Their belief in this kaupapa reflects a shared commitment to strengthening community, identity and belonging in our city.
As construction begins, we look forward to sharing updates and stories from the journey ahead. Ngāmotu Marae will stand as a living expression of who we are and the future we are building together.
